My Story
Having grown up with family members who suffered with
mental illness, I developed a driving curiosity to understand why
we human beings behave as we do. What is the cause and purpose of
our suffering and how do we move forward in spite of it, through
it and beyond it into joy.
My interest in coaching developed
after experiencing a coaching workshop and subsequent work with a
personal coach during the summer of 2003. Later, I attended a
coaching workshop, Coaching to Excellence, with New Ventures
West. This training experience confirmed for me that I was on the
right path for fulfilling my life's purpose to serve others. I
formally began coaching in January of 2006 as part of my one-year coach
training program. I completed the program and was awarded
certification as an Integral Coach through New Ventures West
in September 2006. In October 2006, I fulfilled a dream by
starting my own professional coaching business. In October 2008 I
earned the Associate Certified Credential with the International Coach
Federation.
My previous 20 years of work experience is in the
profession of Human Resource service and management for organizations
such as Compuware Corporation, MascoTech-Braun, Budget Rent-A-Car and
GTE Corporation. I've managed US 401(k) and Canadian RRSP
retirement plans, managed US and Canadian disability and leaves of
absence programs and served in the capacity of a generalist involving
management consulting, employee relations, union grievance
resolution and contract negotiation, health, welfare and retirement
benefit administration, stock option and employee stock purchase plan
administration, training and development administration, special events
coordination, HR database management and payroll.
I've worked in
a variety of industries such as banking, staffing, lighting, automotive
manufacturing and metal-forming suppliers, car rental, wholesale
distribution to convenience stores and computer software &
service. I've worked with all levels of employees within an
organization from front-line hourly staff to C-Suite executives, in both
union and non-union environments, in four different states (Illinois,
Colorado, Massachusetts and Michigan).
I paid for and supported
myself through university by working for Connirae & Steve Andreas,
founders of NLP Comprehensive (p.k.a. NLP of Colorado) in Boulder,
Colorado. I began as their Nanny and soon shifted into the role of
Office Manager as the business grew and developed. While employed,
I was fortunate to receive neuro-linguistic programming (NLP)
training in the majority of courses offered by NLP
Comprehensive.
I am very grateful for having all of the
experiences I've had in my life, for all of the people I've worked with
and known in my life. I am who I am now because of it all; good,
bad, better and worse. As one way of giving back, I serve on the
Board of the Professional Coaches Association of Michigan
(PCAM), as Co-Chair of the Community Outreach Program.
I strive to continue to show up in every moment and join in this
wonderful dance of life.
Be Well, Kathy
